Hardies helps Dalkeith Corn Exchange Regeneration win 2017 Civic Trust Award

The historic Grade A-Listed Corn Exchange in Dalkeith has won a 2017 Civic Trust Award following its recent regeneration. Hardies Property & Construction Consultants provided a range of CDM services to Melville Housing Association, which has redeveloped the prominent building with assistance of funding from Historic Scotland and the Lottery Fund.

Once one of Scotland’s largest and busiest Corn Exchanges, Dalkeith Corn Exchange remains one of the town’s most important historic buildings. Vacant for several years, and experiencing some deterioration, the building was in need of repair, restoration and regeneration. Melville Housing Association purchased the building last year, and undertook the restoration necessary to convert it into its new HQ, with a museum for the Dalkeith History Society and an area for community space.

Alongside Melville Housing Association, Hardies, together with Shepherd Chartered Surveyors (with which it merged last year), have since relocated into the redeveloped Dalkeith Corn Exchange building.

David Vince, Partner at Hardies, said: “We are delighted that the building has received this accolade and are proud to have been involved through the provision of CDM services to our long-standing client, Melville Housing Association”.

“And we are already reaping the benefits from our move into the redeveloped premises, which successfully marry an efficient and welcoming work environment with a tremendous community asset.”

Hardies, which recently merged with Shepherd Chartered Surveyors, serves clients in both the Private and Public sectors with a complete operation in property and construction development, including property valuation, Building and Quantity Surveying and Project Management. The firm also handles the leasing and sale of commercial and industrial buildings; CDM Co-ordination and the provision of Energy Performance Certificates.
