Hardies partner proves he’s hardy at Cateran Yomp
Gary Ovenstone, partner at Hardies Property & Construction Consultants’ St Andrews office, has completed the gruelling Cateran Yomp (a military term for a long-distance march) held last weekend.
The Cateran Yomp is widely acknowledged to be the biggest, toughest event of its kind – yet rather than yomp his way along the rugged terrain of the Cateran Trail in the foothills of the Cairngorm mountains, starting at Blairgowrie through Kirkmichael to Spittal of Glenshee then returning through Glen Isla, Alyth and back to Blairgowrie – a total distance of 54 miles – Gary chose to run the parts of the course he was able!
And, from over 1000 participants who started the course last Saturday morning in Blairgowrie at 7am, he finished twelfth, in a time of 15hrs 37mins.
Commenting on the experience, Gary said: “I loved every minute of it – the organisation is second to none and there’s not many events you will get ice cream and haggis neeps and tatties at a checkpoint! The scenery was absolutely breath-taking and really did make the 54 miles fly as well as the camaraderie shown by my fellow competitors.”
The Yomp exists to raise vital funds to support soldiers, veterans and their families. Gary raised a total of £1700 for three charities: My Name’5 Doddie Foundation; ABF The Soldiers Charity and Guide Dogs for the Blind.
