Shepherd sells B-listed church in Gorebridge to nursery
Acting on behalf of Struthers Church, Shepherd Chartered Surveyors has sold the B-listed church at Gorebridge, Midlothian to Newbyres Nursery after a successful closing date, the property having been marketed at an asking price in excess of £150,000.
Built in 1886, the 3900 sq ft property features an extensive main hall on ground floor level, with mezzanine first floor as well as a secondary smaller hall to the rear of the premises.
The site occupies a prominent location on the east side of Hunterfield Road, the main arterial route through the village, just off the main A7 route south from Edinburgh to the Borders, nine miles from Edinburgh city centre.
A spokesman for Newbyres Nursery said: “We are delighted to acquire the church, which is just across the road from our existing nursery, in order to expand our nursery provision and extend our services to provide much needed after school and holiday care for the local community.
“We are excited to get started with our new project and would like to extend our thanks to the community who have shown us great support.”
Steven Clarke, Commercial Agency Surveyor at Shepherd’s Edinburgh office, said: “Churches always provide challenging agency instructions, with strict planning guidelines leading to restricted uses.
“However, as a firm, we relish such unusual and challenging cases and, on behalf of our client, are delighted to conclude this sale after a successful closing date and pleased that the building will continue to serve the local community.”
