About Liquorice Media

You are invited to send a representative to the launch party for Barge 1502, one of the most remarkable new developments in Edinburgh’s architectural history, on Thursday December 13, 2007.

The opening ceremony for the contemporary floating office in the Outer Basin of the Water of Leith will be performed by Sir Tom Farmer, CBE, the Scottish multi-millionaire and serial entrepreneur, before a gathering of local and national figures who have supported this exciting project.

It can now be revealed that the new tenant on Barge 1502 will be Omnia, the Dubai-headquartered creative agency whose international client portfolio includes Xerox, Walkman, ABN Amro, Dubai Maritime City, Abu Dhabi Golf Club, Marriott, Royal Bank of Scotland and GlaxoSmithKline.

This launch party marks a major step forward in Leith’s progress towards becoming the hub for creative industries in Scotland.

Photograph/film facilities will be made available between 6pm and 6.30pm and there will be ample interview opportunities with Ron Kitchin, managing director of Water of Leith 2000, which owns the barge, Colin Campbell, chief executive UK of Omnia and Sir Tom Farmer.

Press and media representatives are invited to remain for speeches, refreshments and canapés. The evening will end at approximately 8.15pm.

Notes to editors:

Barge 1502 was rescued from dereliction by Water of Leith 2000 last year. During its working life with the Admiralty, it travelled as far as the Falkland Islands. To get to Leith, it had to be towed from the Clyde round the north of Scotland and eventually sunk to be eased under the road bridge into the basin.

It has been transformed by Scottish craftsmen into a contemporary sculpture of sinuously curved hardwood, dramatic glass-scapes and a bluff black hull, counterpointed by traditional nautical portholes. It is fully equipped with high-speed modern communications.
